Iris Shawcroft: I need a Entrepreneurship idea for my college course. I'm having a tough time coming up with anything different. My college is located in a town of about 50k population. So i'm wondering if anyone has seen creative business in very large cities that has not made its way to my town. Or if there is a very new product that perhaps my teacher hasnt heard about then that would work too. I just need a good grade.

Maria Devenney: There are businesses you can start for under 2k, there are many that would take anywhere from 50k to 200k and more. If you are looking to start a business just cause chances are you might go under. I have found you need to have a good reason why. Remember you are putting you money on the line and you want to invest it wisely.I actually have a business in helping others get going. I have just recently helped an eighteen year old get her business up and going. She has already made her initial investment back and is growing very quickly. Know what type of business you are looking for, what products you want to offer, or service. Products and services are what make Businesses run successfully. One thing I have found is! that if you help enough people get what they want you will ge! t what you want. First you need to focus on helping others, then you will be rewarded with income. If you would like I would love to share some more information and possibly help you out.Feel free to email me,Robert Burbankrobertalvarob@yahoo.com...Show more
Son Ahlers: I will suggest you to plan an advertisement strategy for your business. Today starting a new business is not that big challenge but actual challenge is to advertise that business in a better way. Start a business which has scope in your area. Whenever someone thinks to start new business first he/she should consider area (country, state and target customers) then make a proper strategy for new business.
Eliseo Luma: I'm tired of having to ask my parents for money. I've always had an entrepreneurial mindset but have yet to build on it. I like art of all kinds and all I need is an idea or way for me to stop having to depend on my parents for things like lunch and what not. Thanks so much!
Sha! quita Wernicki: thousands is not enough. I own 3 hair salons, am opening a fourth for 20k out of pocket, and this is the cheapest I've ever done it for. If you are planning on bricks and mortar for anything, better have or access to 100k
Ron Keliipio: Set up landscaping and shoveling/snowblowing business. Charge people a fee for the season based on the average amount of times you will perform service. Explain that if for example that it snows on average 15 times a year and you will perform the service for say thirty dollars per time, which is 450 dollars for the winter divided by three months, then they can pay you 150 a month for services, and then if it snows more, then they have a nice price locked in for the whole season. Or say a lawn needs to mowed every six days for . . . . . you get the idea. You could also just charge per time, but the other way allows you to set up a long term contract for the season. Inge Mclaurine: There are many t! hings that you should look into. First see what it is that you like doi! ng. Consider a hobby or something along those lines so that you don't have to invest too much money into it. Plus if it is your hobby, chances are you will offer lower prices than those other businesses out there. So in one way it'll help you get more customers. Buying a franchise requires much more investment and a lot more worth. Remember that there are startup costs you will be incurring. Costs such as registering the business, licenses (if you need them), supplies, etc. Take a look at your state's website so that you are more aware of what you'll need to spend on certain things (for example: www.nj.gov)....Show more
Lu Tiner: Before jumping in and spending lots of money for something you plan to be your livelihood, do your homework. We have a nursery re-wholesale business and spent a year checking out every aspect of the business. We started with a business plan, visited a good business law attorney, visited with a good CPA, visited with many potential suppliers! , visited neighborhoods and businesses to see what our local landscapers were using for their jobs, prepared our land to accomodate thousands of trees, plants, shrubs and ornamental grasses, had the area irrigated (and discovered we had to upgrade our pump), then jumped in and put our plan into action. Our initial startup cost was $50,000.00. And our operation is rather small. We will finally hire employees this summer -- before that we did everything ourselves. Be prepared to work your tail end off, don't expect profit when you first start because every cent will go back into the company, persevere even when times look bleak and after a few years you will be able to enjoy the benefits of your hard work.Owning and running a successful small business takes tremendous dedication and self discipline.Best wishes....Show more

Dick Baumgarten: It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK - lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda! .gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created! by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same - hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.htm...-------------------------------------------------------------"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financi! al assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."-------------------------------------------------------------Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business -- THERE'S NONE.http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_B...Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Cent! er's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It's a subscription base! d website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don't have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs....Show more
