Can I keep my green card if I live in the US but work in Mexico?

Rachell Meese: There is no fixed rule for how much time you can spend outside the United States as a green card holder. You lose your green card if you do something that indicates you have abandoned the United States as a permanent home. If it were clear that this were a temporary assignment and your next assignment would be back in the United States with the same company, you could conceivably even live in Mexico while working for them. The opposite case is clearly OK - immigration has a commuter exception for green card holders who live in border towns in Mexico or Canada and work in the USA.I think this arrangement should be fine, but I would recommend that you get a statement in writing from US immigration that it's OK before you accept this offer and especially before you live in Mexico. Better safe than sorry....Show more

Cuc Gire: Ask the border patrol--- both sides. US & Mexico...

Vince Delarge: I would think so, you would still reside here. Taxe! s will be tricky. Green cards are given to those who don't work at all, though.
