Rowing, the sport/recreation help!?

Alane Antes: You sit on a seat and pull like mad with your arms / shoulders / legs / thighs. Once all the muscles are aching, the coach bellows at you and you have to pull harder.Great fun!

Dulcie Edis: about 25%-40% of your stroke is upper body. The majority of it comes from your legs. Essentially, you sit on a moving seat with your knees bent and your chest close to your knees and your arms extended and gripping an oar (the catch). Then you pull the oar back using your legs, then you move your body, then your arms, leaving everything flat and the oar pulled as far back as you can get it- right up against your chest (the finish). Then you take out your oar, move it with opposite motions (the recovery) back to the catch. here's a good video about it all that's hopefully more clear than my crazy description: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bm3qf_AJHM
